Validating a 32-site asset hierarchy

Turn a chaotic asset registry into a validated, actionable map - fast.

Situation
A major industrial gas producer had 32+ production sites with assets under inconsistent coding; no one could confirm the hierarchy feeding WOs, PMs, and turnaround plans was correct.
Built
A validation engine that pulls each site's asset/location tree, auto-detects the site, dedupes, classifies, and cross-references the PM pool to surface zero-coverage assets.
Outcome
Built 7 site maps plus a company-wide electrical cut of 9,861 assets in ~6 weeks; quantified true PM-coverage gaps of 40-65% per site - previously unknown, now itemized for remediation.

Finding the assets that aren't there

Detect equipment that should be in the system but isn't.

Situation
Coverage gaps are one problem; missing assets are worse - you can't maintain what the system doesn't know exists.
Built
A cross-site missing-asset framework with a five-shape taxonomy (ghost assets, missing sub-assemblies, under-classified parents, location-only stubs, broken hierarchy tails) run against a company-wide pull.
Outcome
Classified the full asset population down to an 8.1% unmapped residual; found a route-based-PM blind spot making multiple sites look far less maintained than they were.

Rescuing a legacy site with no usable hierarchy

Cut a legacy system over to a clean hierarchy without starting from zero.

Situation
A legacy site had opaque location codes, no system structure, no usable asset tree.
Built
A generator that proposes a hierarchy from a canonical reference, then re-points existing PMs onto it using process tags as the join key - matching before the field walkdown.
Outcome
First-pass delivery the client's field-service director called 'pretty good'; became the template for later legacy cutovers.
